Wake the Warrior is a sculpture inspired by the Staffordshire Hoard, the remarkable 7th-century Anglo-Saxon treasure discovered in 2009.
In this piece, the raven from Beowulf is a guiding symbol. My filigree hollow drawing brings this ancient figure to life, embodying the raven’s dual role as a symbol of death and transformation. This work delves into the concept that death is an inevitable part of life and reflects on the profound idea that “everything is saved by being lost.”
A six-month project commissioned by The Potteries Museum in Stoke-on-Trent and supported by The Heritage Lottery Fund.
